One Period Activities
These activities are designed for one class (20-30 students) to complete in one class period (45-60 minutes). During a one day visit, the Mobile Fab Lab can accommodate FOUR classes throughout the day.
Seasonal Little Sculptures – These adorable projects are great for students K-3! They get the opportunity to see how the laser cutter works, put something together and decorate it with markers, crayons or glitter. These are perfect for holiday gifts for families!
Fall: Apples, Autumn Leaves, Halloween Pumpkins and Thanksgiving Turkeys
Winter: Ornaments- trees, snowman, snowflakes
Spring: Flowers with pictures
Laser cut Keychains or Nametags (3-8) Students can create a keychain or nametag!
Keychains can be robots, skeletons, or puzzle boxes!
Core Values Bracelet or Necklace (3-8) Students will determine their core values and use them to create a custom leather cuff or necklace
Trees through the Seasons (K-2) This is a perfect activity for younger students K-2! Students begin by talking about seasons and how they effect the leaves around us! This art and science lesson allows students to color leaves for all season and create a LaserCut tree to glue their leaves.
Create your own Mask (k-8) This activity can be done with students of any grade! After learning about a different culture students can decorate their own mask! Or this can be paired with the ‘create your own super hero activity and students can decorate a superhero mask.
Full Day Activities
These one day visits are an intensive all day experience for ONE class (20-30 students max). You will need to treat this day like an on-site field trip! Each lesson will be tailored for your students and will include an interdisciplinary lesson, design work and fabrication using the mobile fab lab! Check out the lessons below!
Adinkra Symbols (5-8) Students will learn about Adinkra Symbols before designing their own personal symbol and writing a personal mantra. The custom symbol can be made into stickers, magnets, journals or 3D printed amulets. This lesson is great for social-emotional learning!
Alebrijes(3-8) Students will learn about Alebrijes- Mexican spirit animal sculptures before designing and fabricating their own. This lesson can be paired with the movie Coco.
Totem Poles(3-8) Students will learn about Totem Poles- and determine their core values and spirit animal before designing their own totem. Each student’s totem will then be combine to create the class pole.
Logo Design (5-8) Students will learn about Logos and how they have changed over time and design a logo for a specific idea- this could be a local business or non-profit, a school club, or a personal mantra. The logos can be engraved onto a piece of wood or journal, or cut from vinyl to make stickers, or heat press for shirts or bags.
Personal Silhouette (3-8) Students will complete a ‘what’s in my head’ activity before fabricating their own silhouette and filling it with their favorite things.
Puzzles(3-8) Students will learn about tessellating shapes before creating their own, coloring it on a piece of wood, and cutting it into a custom puzzle.
